STONEHEDGE

Stonehenge is a Prehistoric monument located in the English county of Wiltshire. Some archeologists claim this monument was built as early as 2,500 BC. Some archeologists believe that at one time these stones were perceived to have healing powers and was a place of pilgrimage. Some believe that it was burial ground as graves were found nearby. Ancient religions may have performed ceremonies rooted in "Earth Spirituality". These ceremonies were performed by Druids, who were Celtic priests and Law makers.

Solstice ceremonies were and are held there.

Some people believe that instead of this being a temple, it was an astronomical observatory. They say that on the Summer Solstice, the longest day of the year, the sun shines directly through the center of the structure. This reminds me of the Mayan Temples.

The following are links to the a wiki article reflecting theories on Stonehenge and of a site called "Earth Mysteries" on the topic of Druids.

Today, thousands gather to witness the Summer Solstice. I am not aware of any other gatherings taking place at Stonehenge but I do know that Druids are now recognized by England as a religion. Here is a link on the subject.

While I would not view myself as a Druid, I do share many things in common as to the "Earthy Spirituality".

We need to improve in our awareness of Mother Earth's current condition and how she enhance our spirituality.
