THE HUNGER FOR LOVE ~~ NATIVE AMERICAN WISDOM

The following is the wisdom of Chief Dan George-Chief of Salish Band of Indians

"My friends, how desperately do we need to be loved and to love. When Christ said that man does not live by bread alone, he spoke of hunger. This hunger was not the hunger of the body. It was not the hunger for bread. He spoke of hunger that begins deep down in the very depths of our being. He spoke of a need as vital as breath. He spoke of our hunger for love.

Love is something you and I must have. We must have it because our spirit feeds upon it. We must have it because without it we become weak and faint. Without love our self-esteem weakens. Without it our courage fails. Without love we can no longer look out confidently at the world. We turn inward and begin to feed upon our own personalities, and little by little we destroy ourselves.
With it we are creative. With it we march tirelessly. With it, and with it alone, we are able to sacrifice for others."

While I believe strongly that we are loved by  God, The Great Spirit and Mother Earth, ~~ all we as humans have to do is to accept it.  Is it not interesting that Children seem to be move receptive to universal love than adults who are consumed with their ego and with low self esteem. It will be a child who will lead us to peace and light! Some adult humans may even feel non deserving of  love from the universe and from fellow humans.

There is not a mentally healthy human who does not want to feel loved! I am not speaking of the Eros here, I am speaking of the Agape, the love for the spirit and soul of a human. It is true how people who feel void of love pursue such love perhaps in a building of worship or in a pet, etc. I have known people starving for the Agape bury themselves in books and live in a world of fantasy. They are locked up in their house and rarely go out.  The Agape is stimulated by contact with mankind in the flesh. The question that often arises ~~ is it possible to experience the Agape through the internet? A subject I will address in complete later in another post.

The Native American will walk among Mother Nature where love is communicated with by beauty and sounds of her creation. Many of us live in a cement juggle and find it difficult to share with Mother Nature. We then look for a city park, hopefully with small body of water like a stream, small lake, pond, trees, etc.

The following is a beautiful Native American Poem called:

BEAUTY WALK:

Let light enfold me
That my inside eye may see clearly
The path that lies ahead.
Let my mind be opened up
That I may recognize
The signposts along the way.

Grant me the wisdom
That comes from understanding
The true from the false.
And Guide my steps
So that should I falter or stumble,
Tripped by former beliefs
That bring me still
I may go forward with Courage
And with the determination
Which persistence Bears.

Let me be embraced
With the Love by which
The whole Creation is moved.
The very Essence with which
All things are held together
Dependent yet independent,
Whole yet individuated.
In which all are my relatives

Let me know the way
That is the beauty way
Where all who will
May walk in Beauty
and where the end of the path
is but a new beginning
To my infinity.
And every new beginning
Another ever-present moment
In Eternity.

We are surrounded by love, reach for it and grasp it. Ignore it and it will reach for you. Just open your heart!
